Giant pandas mainly inhabit the valleys of the upper Yangtze River system in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu province of China. About 75% of these wild pandas live in Sichuan.

These dense bamboo forests, at an average altitude of 2,600 to 3,500, are rich in food and water and are well-suited for pandas.

There are four panda bases in Sichuan province, the main habitat of Giant pandas. The most famous one is the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. It isis located 10 kilometers from downtown Chengdu and 30 kilometers from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, making it very convenient for transportation. If you are traveling to Chengdu, don’t miss to visit the Panda Base.

Another panda base near Chengdu is the Panda Valley in Dujiangyan City, which is 50 kilometers from the downtown area. Although it is not as large as the panda base in Chengdu, it is quieter and allows for a closer look at the pandas because there are fewer tourists.

Another two panda bases in Sichuan are Bifengxia Panda Base in Ya’an city and Wolong Panda Base in Wolong Town. They are all built close to the areas where the wild pandas live. While visiting these panda bases, you can not only see the lovely pandas but also appreciate the wild living environment of pandas and further understand their living habits of pandas.
